This article describes the structure of floors. Floors typically consist of a subfloor for support and a floor covering used to give a good walking surface. In modern buildings the subfloor often has electrical wiring, plumbing, and other services built in. I cleaned the floors with a swiffer wetjet and sweeper but they're still dirty! They dont look dirty, but when I walk barefoot, my feet turn black. At my friend's house, he has the same floors but I walk around his place and never get black feet. How does one get their floors THAT clean? I had the same problem when I moved into my older apt in NYC and nothing would get them clean. For the tile mop with bleach and that should take care of it. For the hardwood your going to have to mop a lot however don't use and oil based soaps. I tried it and the problem got worse because they tend to make more dirt stick. I moped twice a week with whatever all purpose floor cleaner I had and now that I got them clean I use Mrs. Meyers all purpose cleaner once a week, it gets them really clean and does not leave any residue that causes the dirt to stick to the floor. Also you need a real mop a swiffer is worthless for a really dirty floor. Get a mop with absorbent strips not a sponge mop or cotton mop, they scrub the best. Any hard surface on stairs can be slippery.And with the way laminate needs to be done on stairs its a tripping hazard with the stair nose. Q. When I do clean my tile floors they are very clean and pretty. But I have two dogs and a 6 year old. I am not wanting to spend all my time cleaning floors! It would work even better on tile. Now, with two dogs, you obviously would be doing this at least twice as often as I would with one dog. Okay, we have two dogs, but Lucky Dog only goes outside to (ahem!) and comes right back--no dirty paws there. You could change to carpet if you want to have all that crud with you all the time locked into the fabric of the carpet, or you could keep the easily-cleaned tile and choose between dogs or ease.
